ANTICANCER ACTIVITY LEAF EXTRACT AIR SINGKONG (Manihot esculenta Crantz.) BOILED AND RAW ON CANCER CELLS IN VITRO BY KOLON WIDR

ABSTRACT: Background: Cancer is a global health problem with an increasing number of sufferer each year. While the three main cancer is most often detected are lung cancer, breast cancer, and colon cancer. Consumption of fruits and vegetables is known to reduce the risk of colon cancer, though it is still being debated. However, not much research on the anti-cancer activity of cassava leaves, especially in colon cancer. Objective: The aim from this study is to investigated the anti-cancer activity of the leaves of cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) raw or boiled on the against of colon cancer cells WiDr. Methods of study: Effect of crude aqueous extract of raw cassava leaves and boiled cassava leaves tested in colon cancer cells WiDr. Anti-cancer testing using the MTT method with parameters such as the percentage of inhibition. Results: raw cassava leaf water extract gave IC50 of 63.1 mg / ml. While the water extract of boiled cassava leaves gave IC50 of 79.4 mg / ml. However, there is no difference ability of anticancer activity of raw and boiled cassava leaves on the inhibition of colon cancer cells. Conclusion: Cassava leaves have anticancer activity against colon cancer cells WiDr. In addition, the boiling process does not reduce the anticancer activity on cassava leaves.
