Expression of interleukin-6 DIFFERENT NETWORK LOCATION BASED CANCER Primary Tumor Colorectal Adenocarcinoma

ABSTRACT: Background Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a pleiotropic cytokine produced by tumor cell that act as growth factor. Colorectal cancer can produce IL-6 as a consequence there is a raising of IL-6 level in colon mucosa that is showing excessive development of cell. Tumor location is one of prognostic factors in colorectal cancer but it is unclear that increase of IL-6 expression in colorectal cancer is related to primary tumor location. ObjectivesThis reserach is held to find out the difference of tissue expression of IL-6 between which located in colon and rectum in colorectal adenocarcinoma in Sardjito Hospital Yogyakarta Methods : It is a cross sectional study. The subject of this study is the resection preparation of colorectal tissue biopsies from all patients with adenocarcinoma colorectal with tissue samples are sent to the department of Pathology Anatomy Dr. Sardjito between March 2010 and March 2014 that meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria.Statistical analysis was done by Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS) 20.0 for Windows. Results : 49samples ofthis study had been analysed. They consisted of 19male subjects(38.8%) with mean age of 55.75±12.28years old. In all 22samples had rectum cancer (44.9%), 13samples had right colon cancer (28.5%) and14 samples had left colon cancer(28.6%). Level of IL-6 expressionincoloncancertissuewas slightly higher thaninthe rectumalthoughdidn’t differ significant (0,86 vs 0,80; p = 0,559). In thesubgroup analysis, the differences inthe expressionof IL-6 werenot significantlybetweenthe rightcolon, leftandrectum(p =0,601). Conclusion: There is no difference significantly inthe expressionof IL-6 from colorectal adenocarcinoma tissuebetweencolonandrectum
