LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE ABOUT BREAST CANCER AND REALIZE THAT THE PEOPLE AT RISK CA mammary
ABSTRACT: Background: Breast cancer is a cancer that occurs in women and men. To suppress the incidence and mortality due to breast cancer, early detections such as breast self-examination (BSE) is needed. However, until recently only a few have had awareness to conduct BSE regularly. The lack of knowledge about breast cancer and BSE becomes one important factor affecting a person not to do the exam. Objective: To determine the level of knowledge about breast cancer and BSE in people who are at risk of breast cancer. Research Methodology: This was a quantitative study using a cross sectional study design. The sample size was 88 respondents, consisting of 46 women and 42 men. Results: Both female and male respondents had heard about breast cancer and BSE and generally had a good category of knowledge about breast cancer and BSE. Based on aspects of the knowledge, the female respondents had 7 aspects of the knowledge about breast cancer and BSE which are categorized as good, while male respondents only had 4 aspects of the knowledge which are categorized as good. Conclusion: The level of knowledge of the female and male respondents about breast cancer and BSE is generally considered good; however, based on aspects of the knowledge, there are several aspects of the knowledge which are categorized as poor.
