CHARACTERISTICS OF IMAGING IN CLINICAL BREAST CANCER Mammography Oncology Kotabaru SPECIAL PERIOD 2011-2014

ABSTRACT: Background: Breast cancer mortality rate has decreased in the last three decades. It is believed due to the advance of mammography as a screening and diagnostic tool. However, mammography features have many variations. Even cases of the same subtypes based on pathology can have different mammographic features. Objectives: To know the distribution of the mammographic features in patients with histologically proven breast cancer. Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional observational descriptive study of Klinik Khusus Onkologi Kotabaru breast cancer patientsâ�� mammogram. Results: A total of 45 breast cancer patients were included. The distributions were 35-54 year old (69%), single lesion (78%), hyper dense (91%), spiculated (67%), irregular margin (73%), without halo sign (96%), intra-lesion calcification (33%), skin thickening (44%), nipple retraction (31%), lymph node metastases (67%), and disappearing lymph node hilum (73%). Kappa analysis was conducted and the results of all features except disappearing lymph node hilum were excellent, meanwhile the disappearing lymph node hilum was fair. Conclusion: Breast cancer in KKOK mainly presents as a single, hyper dense, spiculated lesion with irregular margin and without halo sign. Breast cancer in KKOK also mainly presents with axillary lymph node metastases and disappearing lymph node hilum. Intra-lesion calcification was found in 33% patients, skin thickening in 44% patients, and nipple retraction in 31% patients.
