EFFECT OF INTERVENTION PROGRAM THANKSGIVING IN BREAST CANCER SURVIVOR SUBJECTIVE WELFARE

ABSTRACT: An increasing number of breast cancer survivor after the treatment making some experts (Hewitt, Greenfield, & Stoval, 2006; Zebrack, 2000) had given particular attention related the quality of/welfare of her life. The aftermath of treatment was the period of transition survivor with various challenges that can be lowered wellbeing of survivor. Survivor was not capable of being adjusted stress suffered so as to affect her subjective wellbeing. Research was aimed to test that gratitude intervention program will be able to improve the subjective well-being of breast cancer survivor. Research used quasi-experimental design based on untreated control group design with dependent pretest and posttest. The subject of study consisted of two groups which was the experimental group consist of 3 survivor and the control group (waiting list) consisting of 3 survivor. Experiment was administered gratitude intervention program that presented in two weeks consist of 4 meetings of gratitude meditation and write a diary every day. An instrument of this research was the scale of component satisfation a life based on a judgment satisfaction of Veenhoven which goes along with the judgment of Diener and the affective component, modified from SPANE (scale of positive and negative scale). Both of the scale was given to the two groups before and after treatment. Analysis using non-parametric statistic included Mann-Whitney U and Wilcoxon signed rank. According to Mann-Whitney analysis on gain score pre-post test of two groups obtained value of Z=-0.218 with p=0.41 (p>0.05). Furthermore, according to Wilcoxon signed rank analysis obtained value of Z=-1.069 p=0.14 (p > 0.05) on the pre-posttest experimental group and the value of Z=0.000 and p=0.50 (p>0.05) on the pre-posttest control group. The analysis didn’t show significant differences of subjective well-being on the experimental group and the control group. It can be concluded that no effect of the gratitude intervention program on the subjective well-being of breast cancer survivor.
